Calf with the Fattened Ear

I heard this tale of foolish greed during a workshop in Ethiopia. Tewodros Gebreezgiaber, a participant, told the group of how he had been assessing a successful Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) land-management project in Tigray. One of the farmers asked why the promised financial payments had not yet been paid. When Tewodros tried to explain that of course administrative channels took time, the farmer responded with this tale.

The skeleton of the tale (although not of the calf) is here.

Tewodros also told us Whose Cows?.
