I was so inspired by hearing Martin Ellrodt tell this Grimms’ tale to a group of schoolchildren at the Brixen Storytelling Festival that I soon started working on my own version for teenage and adult audiences.

The Norwegian wonder tale, The Giant without a Heart, has many of the same motifs.

This recording was made by Björn Gullander (many thanks for your camera work!) at the Ljungby Storytelling Festival, Sweden, in June 2018.
